8 and 9 Months

Lydia is now closer to 9 months than 8 months, so I guess I will make this an 8/9 month milestones post.

She is so busy now.  Right around the 8th month Lydia learned how to crawl, and she has not slowed down at all.  In fact, only 5 days later she learned to pull herself up to standing and now she practices every chance she gets.  She makes the sound "Da-da" and seems to be starting to make the connection.  She has said "Ma" once in a hilarious episode of "cling to Mom's legs" when I got home from work.  I was apparently not moving quickly enough for her liking to feed her, so she crawled over, grabbed my pant legs, pulled herself up to her knees, hung on for dear life and yelled "MA!" while crying her little crocodile tears.  It was quite hilarious.

While she has mastered pulling herself up, she has not yet mastered getting back down again, which is frustrating to say the least when it happens in her crib when she's supposed to be sleeping.

She is finally getting back to sleeping through the night after a few rough months of waking up one to fifteen times in the night.  Okay, that may be a slight exaggeration.  One to fourteen times a night.

She is not usually a great napper, but has been getting better over the last week.  She has taken some really good naps in her crib this past week, including one this morning that lasted somewhere around 4 hours.  Guess she wanted to get her morning AND afternoon nap all over at once so she can practice crawling and putting everything in her mouth all afternoon.

She has started making a hilarious smile that squinches up her eyes and nose and makes me melt into a big puddle.  When I tell her "no" she turns around and gives me a huge smile, which I must say is really hard not to smile back in response.

She gets so excited when her Daddy comes home, and if the baby gates are not up, she crawls as fast as she can to try and meet him at the door.  Speaking of baby gates, we have 3 in our living room to block off all the doorways.  When she sees that one is open, she makes a break for it, but gives herself away every time as she squeals with delight and crawls as fast as her little body can carry her.

Lydia continues to think that her brother and sister hung the moon, and loves it when they get on the floor and play with her, or do some ridiculous song and dance.  They do love to make her smile.

We spent the weekend of the New Year at Granddaddy and Grandmommie's house and visited with Uncle Rob and Uncle John and Amanda (Uncle Rob's girlfriend).  It was a great time, and the first time in about 2 years maybe that 3 of us 4 kids were home at the same time.  It was Rob and John's first time meeting Lydia, so that was fun.  The kids all loved Amanda, even Lydia who usually likes nobody, and still won't let her grandparents hold her for more than about 12 seconds sometimes.  It was so much fun though, we can't wait to go back.
