Something to Ponder...

A high school friend's blog made reference to this Bible verse yesterday:

"The end of all things is near.  Therefore be clear minded and selfcontrolled so that you can pray.  Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.  Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling.  Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms.  If anyone speaks, he should do it as on speaking the very words of God.  If anyone serves he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ.  To him be the glory and power for ever and ever. Amen."
1 Peter 4:7-11

I've been pondering parts of these verses since I read them, especially the part about using whatever gift he has received to serve others.  I am still trying to figure out what my gift is and how it can be used to glorify God.  I'd have thought that at 32 years old I would have figured that out by now.  :)  On one hand I want to pray for guidance and for God to light a fire in me for those things I am supposed to do.  On the other hand I'm afraid to open that door as God has a tendency to give us much more than we bargained for.

In the book of James he talks about asking God for wisdom.  The translation from The Message says, "If you don't know what you're doing, pray to the Father.  He loves to help.  You'll get his help, and won't be condescended to when you ask for it.  Ask boldly, believingly, without a second thought.  People who 'worry their prayers' are like wind-whipped waves.  Don't think you're going to get anything from the Master that way, adrift at sea, keeping all your options open...........Every desirable and beneficial gift comes out of heaven.  The gifts are rivers of light cascading down from the Father of Light.  There is nothing deceitful in God, nothing two-faced, nothing fickle.  He brought us to life using the true Word, showing us off as the crown of all his creatures."  Over the last few years I have found this to be true.  When I am confused or in need of guidance, praying for wisdom always helps me make the right decision.  But I have also found that when I pray for wisdom, God opens doors that I didn't expect, and I'm not always prepared for the outcome.  Sometimes when you ask for rain you get a downpour.  That's not always a bad thing, just unexpected.  I guess what I should really be praying for is the courage to pray for direction, and the craziness to take that first step.

Amelia's Dance Recital Pictures

I wish this picture had turned out a little better, but I still think it is quite possibly one of my favorites EVER.  This was after the show was all over and boy did that little guy take off for his sister.  She saw him coming and yelled, "THOMAS!!!!!"  They got right up on top of each other and he veered around her and kept running.
Daddy and Thomas after the recital.  Thomas had his tubes in on Thursday and his gastro appointment on Friday, so he wasn't in the best mood for most of the last 4 days.  And he has two teeth coming in.  Of course you couldn't tell any of this by looking at the little stinker.
Amelia wanted Nana to help her with her carnation that Brittany, her dance instructor, had given to her and the rest of the girls after the recital.  She wanted to smell it but couldn't figure out how to pull down the cellophane without ripping the flower off the stem.
I love this picture.  We have The Queen of "Cheese" on the left, and Little Miss Attitude on the right.  Hilarious.  You can tell that trouble follows when these two are together.
I love the cheese face in this one.  She was so proud of herself, and rightly so.  She did a great job.
My sweet big girl after her first recital.
This was all the girls in her class leaving the stage after their performance.  They each gave a huge bow at the end and it was absolutely adorable to watch the whole three and a half minutes.

Amelia's First Dance Recital

Amelia is the little one in the front row, far left side. The one who looks like she is equal parts completely into the song and completely in her own little world. She did a great job and we're so proud of her.

Welcome Elijah Paul!!!

Welcome my sweet little nephew!  Elijah Paul Burton was born on Wednesday, March 16 at 11:22 am.  He was 6 lbs 14 oz (the exact same weight as Amelia!) and was 21 inches long!  He is so tiny and huggable.  Mom and I drove down on Wednesday and this little stinker was born before we even got into the car!  Way to go Courtney, you matched my 4 hour first labor!  :)  I could just sit for hours and snuggle this little man.  He snuggled his face into my shoulder and made little purring noises and he is now wrapped around my finger.  It's a good thing they were still at the hospital when I left for home on Friday or I would have snuck him in my suitcase!  Can't wait to see you again EP....oh yeah, and you too Courtney and Jason.  :)

Random Musings from This Week

Wow, it has been a crazy week so far and it's only Monday.  Saturday John and I got to take an adult's only trip to IKEA.  Yep, that's as exciting as we get.  It is normally a very fun day trip for us, however this one was a nightmare.  We had all kinds of problems and frustrations at the store and afterward.  We LOVE IKEA but have never been so happy to arrive home!

Between Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning, John developed a sinus infection and started to notice that his ears were getting plugged and sore.  We stayed home from church because he felt so bad and it's hard for me to take care of the two crazy kids by myself at church.  I spent the morning packing up the remaining items in Amelia's room while Thomas napped and John rested.  When it was Amelia's time for a nap, she FREAKED OUT.  We have highly underestimated how this upcoming move would affect her.  She has up to this point been very excited about the prospect of a new house.  Until she saw all of her things packed in boxes and bags.  Don't get me wrong, she's still very excited about moving.  She just doesn't understand why we must pack things in boxes and bags and now she can't see them.  She started asking where the strangest things were.  "Where's my pink thing?  Where's the birthday train?  Where's my changing tree?"  "Everything is still here, it's just packed up so we can move it to the new house to your new room."  After at least 10 minutes of explaining this to her she relaxed for about 30 seconds then Daddy was sent up to continue the reassuring process.  She'll be fine when we get there.  She really is excited about her new room.  She can't wait for us to paint it green and put her big girl bed in there and her PeaPod tent in her closet and make the room all "pretty!"

This morning I was woken by John jumping out of bed and dashing to the bathroom.  The sinus infection was much worse than he had thought and his ear drum ruptured.  Needless to say he took the day off work and they worked him in to a packed schedule at the doctor's office to check him over.  I got the kids all ready and was distractedly trying to get out of the driveway this morning.  John hadn't had a chance to pull some extra stuff out of the back of the van, so my line of sight was a little blocked as well.  I backed the van into the Buick.  I scuffed his paint on his rocker panels, but left a nice size dent on my rear bumper.  Fantastic.

So that's pretty much how this week has gone.

The one funny thing I remember was when the kids were playing yesterday.  They were wrestling around on the floor and Thomas got Amelia pinned down and started tickling her.  It was so hilarious!  I've never seen him try that before but she laughed so hard which made him laugh harder.  I wish I could have captured a picture of it.

What a Year...

Barely three months into the year, and it has been completely overwhelming already.

In January we lost Grandpa Yerington.  That was one of the biggest things that sucked.  Each of us has been sick more than we have in a long time.  Nearly each week at least one of us has been at the doctor.  John had sinus surgery which put him out of commission for almost two weeks.  Amelia has been asserting her independence, to put it nicely.  Thomas is walking, really almost running, everywhere.  We did finally sell the house and have purchased a new one.  We close in 19 days and I have about 6 boxes packed.  John has worked probably 60+ hours this week, Amelia has been sick, and Thomas had an adverse reaction to some of his immunizations this week, so my house is a disaster and the packing is going veeeeerrrrryyyyyyy slowly.

Here's hoping that the rest of the year is not quite so crazy.  I could use a vacation.  :)

Little Miss Helpful

I went upstairs for like 5 minutes to check on John and I came back down to find this.

"Mommy! I feed Thomas!"

She was so proud of herself I didn't have the heart to tell her she had made quite a mess for me to clean up.

I was glad that Thomas had taken his pajamas off by himself before he was put in his highchair.
