Different Sides of the Same Little Girl

Amelia has always been equal parts adorable and frustrating. From her earliest days she was the snuggle bunny who would melt her mommy's heart, and would drive me crazy when I would put her down and she would scream her head off. Happy as a clam one minute, mad as a hatter the next.

I am still amazed at the different sides of this same sweet little girl. One minute she is all attitude, and the next she is the most wonderfully considerate little lady. Never have I witnessed her sweet side as beautifully as this past Saturday.

We were supposed to go to Owensboro for Rob's graduation weekend, but 5 minutes into the drive Amelia barfed in the van so we decided to call it and head back home, just in case. It was a darn good thing we did too. Amelia didn't get sick anymore all weekend, but her daddy sure did. Right about the time we would have been rolling into town, John started getting sick. He was up most of the night with diarrhea and vomiting and a fever. I spent the weekend sleeping on the couch. On Saturday morning John was laying in bed trying to recover. I took the kids with me to the grocery store to stock up for the week, and when we got back Thomas was asleep and Amelia was behaving pretty well. I put Thomas to bed and took Amelia up to her room to let her play while I put the groceries away. When I went up 20 minutes or so later to check on her, I saw quite a sight. John was laying in bed, with only his face visible, the rest of him covered in blankets and every stuffed animal Amelia owns. She had taken him her Lion, Pink Elephant, Horton, Teddy Bear, Puppy Pillow, Other Puppy, Snuggle, Blankie, and was in the process of trying to plug in her humidifier that she had unplugged and lugged all the way from her room and placed next to her daddy's side of the bed. I got a heck of a laugh when I came in and saw this going on. But what a beautiful, loving act from a little girl to her daddy. She loves him so much she gave him all of her favorite things to make him feel better. All of the things that give her comfort, she was willing to give to him just to make him feel good enough to get out of bed. I love how sweet and innocent these kids are right now. Unspoiled by the world, and still able to give absolute unconditional love. Too bad we adults can't still be that way.

  1. Tracie,
As a completely unbiased Grandfather I only see the wonderful side of my beautiful granddadughter. I may be a little biased again when I say that her mother and Aunt Sissy were pretty wonderful also. Enjoy and suck in all these wonderful moments when you can because one day they will be three and the next day they will be 31 and you will wonder how in the world that is possible.

    Love,

    Dad and Granddaddy
