From the Mouths of Babes

I'm amazed more and more each day how much Amelia's vocabulary and understanding has exploded in the last year. Case in point....this week.

A: "Mommy, Sweetheart is okay."
M: "Sweetheart? Who is Sweetheart, honey?"
A: (Shows me her fingers) "Sweetheart is okay."
M: Okay....

Sweetheart is apparently her fingers on each hand. She had a few boo boos on her fingers from different injuries, but they are all "okay" now. All I can figure is I must have told her something like, "It's okay, Sweetheart" when she came to me about these boo boos one day and she must have thought I was calling her fingers "Sweetheart."

Then the best conversation of all time, after a very long hour or so of outright defiant behavior:

M: "You know Amelia, Mommy wouldn't have to yell so much if you would listen and do what you are told..."
A: "Oh come on, Mommy!"
M: (Trying to hide my smile) *SIGH*

But the best moment by far was when we got home from daycare the other day and she did what will be immortalized in our family as "The Poop Dance." :) She was walking across the patio toward the deck and noticed the dog poop on the patio. She looked at me and said, "Oh no, Mommy, POOP! Doggies POOPED on the patio. They do dis..." And she started dancing backward in a circle leading with her little butt with the silliest little smile on her face. I laughed my head off on that one.

These kids amuse me every day.

  1. Tracie, this reminds me of when my niece was little. We had a new lab puppy named Katie. Katie was being difficult to house break. We teased Lee that she needed to show Katie how to go to the bathroom outside. Toddler Lee went right out the back door and squatted. At that same age - Lee was digging in the yard with my mom. We had recently buried our beagle. While digging, Lee tells Mom she thinks she sees Sadie (the beagle)...Mom said she hoped my boyfriend had buried Sadie real deep....
