The Longest Trip

We spent a long weekend in Owensboro visiting the family. We had a great time on the trip, even though there were a few hiccups along the way. This picture is Thomas the night before our trip, just being goofy. I thought it was cute, so I'm posting it anyway.
Here is Amelia within minutes of leaving the house. Notice that she is mostly buried under all of her favorite things. Lion, Snuggle, Blankie, and Puppy Pillow all had to come along and keep her company all weekend. This was before we found out that Mom locked herself out of our house and we realized we hadn't left her a key. Also before we found out that our Smart Locks are unable to be picked by a locksmith at 9:00 pm on a Wednesday night. And before John dropped us off at Dad and Mary's house and turned around at midnight to drive all the way back to Muscatine to get a key to Mom and unlock the door so the dogs could eat breakfast and go potty outside rather than on our new carpet. And before he got 4 hours of sleep and turned around and drove all the way back down to Owensboro. What a mess. Now Mom has a copy of the key. And she knows not to lock the door handle. :)
Miss Amelia on our first morning in Owensboro, while Daddy was in Muscatine catching a few z's before he came back. She is wearing her new Dora Fiesta Dress and matching Adventure Slippers. Not sure how many adventures you can have in slippers, but anyway, she looks adorable. I wish I could have taken a picture of her standing up in it so the ruffled tiers could be seen, but someone didn't cooperate that much. Oh well, I'm sure she'll get lots of wear out of this and I'll have plenty of opportunity to take another better picture.

Friday evening was Christmas/Valentine's/Tracie's birthday celebrations. We opened our presents and had a yummy supper with all the siblings. Here is Amelia's awesome Eeyore fleece blanket that Grandmommie made her. She was totally in love with it.
Since Thomas is too little to open his own presents, Amelia was allowed to open his present for him. He received an adorable Elephant fleece blanket in gray and yellow. So cute. He is going to love laying on it, I'm sure. We had meatloaf, twice baked potatoes, corn, and peanut butter pie for dessert. John and I treated the family to some Cold Stone Creamery ice cream too, since most of them had never tried it. It's one of our favorites, so we wanted to share the yummy good stuff. At supper Rob made a jab at his brother John and John kicked his butt after supper. Kind of funny to everyone, including Rob. :)
Saturday we went bowling with Dad, Mary, Courtney and Jason. We rented two lanes, one for Amelia to play with bumpers, and one for the rest of us adults who wanted to play. Amelia had a blast bowling, and lasted longer than I thought at playing. Dad, former bowling league big shot, beat all of us, of course. John was hot on his tail though for most of the way, and Jason put up a good fight too when he answered some of Dad's strikes with a few of his own. I, being the crummy bowler I am, finished dead last in all three games. In fact, Amelia got a higher score than me on one of her rounds. We still had fun though. Courtney helped Amelia with most of her bowling, and Mary watched Thomas.
Sorry Mary, you're making a goofy face here, but it's the only one I got with you and Thomas at the bowling alley. Ah, and there's the bowling pro, getting ready to have a great time playing three rounds of bowling. Too bad he's paying for it today, as his back went out on him when he went to unload the dishwasher this morning. Either that, or it was from playing on the floor with his grandkids for 4 days. We'll blame it on the bowling.
Amelia was my biggest cheerleader. Every time I went up to play she would yell, "Go Mommy! Yeah! Good job, Mommy!" Here is me coming back from yet another gutter ball, with Amelia cheering me on.
Aunt Courtney and Amelia finishing a frame. The bowling alley didn't carry shoes in Amelia's size so she had to bowl in her socks.
Saturday night we had our family picture taken, since we don't have a picture of all four of us together. Not the best, since we have one screaming, one saying "CHEESE" and everyone looking in different directions. But all four of us are in the same picture, so I'll take that.
And finally, a picture of Mommy and Daddy by themselves, getting ready to go on a short date after the little ones made it off to bed. It was a great trip, and we had a really nice time. Thanks Dad and Mary for letting us stay, and thanks Courtney, Jason, Rob and John for all the laughs. We had such a great time, and we'll miss you like crazy until we make it down again.
